Managing Up Change Managing Up is communicating the organization’s initiatives while maintaining objectivity. The message is delivered with support despite personal feelings. Example: There is a staffing reorganization. Leaders would be expected to communicate this by focusing on the benefits and opportunities even if they don’t agree with some of the changes. Staff should receive the message the way Senior Leadership would want them to. Another aspect of Managing Up is handoffs. Handoffs are the transition of ownership and we would never want someone to feel like they are being passed back and forth. The handoff should benefit them and make them feel like they are in good hands because they will be with the expert they need. Example: Somebody reaches out to you with a question and you are not the expert, we would want you to figure out who the expert is and connect that individual to them. To make the handoff a positive experience you would assure the person that they’ll be in good hands and that they are being connected to an expert for their question. Leader Expectation(s): ALWAYS Manage Up corporate communications that need to be delivered to staff. Ensure your staff are also practicing Managing Up techniques with patients and colleagues.
