Confidentiality All information pertaining to patients, employees, physicians or organizational matters must be held in strict confidence at all times. The release of such information will only be made in accordance with AtlantiCare policy and applicable law. An employee who improperly releases information is subject to immediate disciplinary action up to and including termination. Employees need to be conscious of confidential matters while in public areas.

Management of Information / HIPAA

Management of Information Delivering healthcare requires information. The type of information varies between AtlantiCare business entities and individual job requirements. Information is captured and used daily in our jobs for administrative, clinical and organizational decision making, research, performance improvement, as well as patient and family education. Some examples of information within AtlantiCare include the employee handbook, annual education, meeting minutes, performance improvement data, daily schedules, insurance and co pay status, contracts, payroll reports, vacation allowance, progress notes, databases, code sets, patient census, isolation procedures, and nutritional assessments, plan of care, environmental services alerts and security directives. It is everyone’s responsibility to properly manage the information we use daily. HIPAA - Privacy and Security of Protected Health Information It is everyone’s responsibility to protect information at AtlantiCare. Protected health information (PHI) and electronic protected health information (ePHI) are terms used within the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) which covers patient information in all formats: electronic, paper or verbal. AtlantiCare’s Privacy Officer is responsible for the privacy and confidentiality of patient protected health information. All employees are responsible to maintain the confidentiality of protected health information and should report suspected violations of privacy or security standards to the Privacy Compliance phone line at 407-7788. HIPAA Privacy and Security standards are utilized daily in the performance of our jobs, it is the way we manage information. All patient information is confidential. HIPAA requires auditing of access to systems with ePHI, including the monitoring of log-in success or failures. When accessing information electronically, your username is linked to any information that is viewed or edited. Access to systems and information is guarded. You should never share your log in or password. Computer systems are the property of AtlantiCare and are to be used for business purposes. Employees should have no expectation of privacy with regard to their information that is stored or sent through AtlantiCare systems related to their use of AtlantiCare systems.

Improper access or disclosure of information is not permitted and is subject to investigation and possible disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
