CTICU – Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit A specialized intensive care unit caring for patients following cardiac or thoracic surgery. Often referenced separately from other ICU areas due to acuity and specialty care. DMHAS – Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services New Jersey state agency that licenses, regulates, and oversees mental health and substance use disorder services. Frequently referenced in relation to ABH and JBRC operations, audits, and compliance requirements.

★ ED – Emergency Department The correct and preferred term used at AtlantiCare. While many people still say “ER,” ED is the expected terminology.

★ EIP – Education Investment Program AtlantiCare’s tuition assistance program.

★ EMS – Emergency Medical Services Provides pre-hospital emergency medical care and transport through EMTs, paramedics, and field leadership.

★ ESA – Team Member Safety App AtlantiCare’s internal web-based tool used by team members to log symptoms during peak respiratory illness seasons, receive work guidance, and select their annual flu vaccination option. Frequently referenced in attendance, clearance, and compliance conversations.

★ EVS – Environmental Services Department responsible for cleaning and infection prevention. Often referred to as Housekeepers.

★ The mandatory requirements to perform your role, including licenses, certifications, required education, and annual training. Non-compliance may impact scheduling, incentives, and continued employment. EWR–EssentialWork Requirements

FQHC – Federally Qualified Health Center Federally designated community health centers in Atlantic City and Galloway.

★ GNI – Global Neurosciences Institute AtlantiCare’s neuroscience partner providing brain, spine, and stroke care, including neurosurgery and emergency neurological services. ★ SPH – Safe Patient Handling Practices, equipment, and techniques used to safely move, lift, and reposition patients while reducing the risk of injury to patients and team members. EMTALA – Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act Federal law requiring Medicare-participating hospitals with emergency departments to provide appropriate medical screening and stabilizing treatment for individuals seeking emergency care, regardless of ability to pay. ★ HVI – Heart and Vascular Institute Expanded heart and vascular service line at Mainland Campus. HVU – Heart and Vascular Unit The full enterprise of heart and vascular service lines encompassing inpatient and ambulatory settings. ★ HOL – Hospital Operations Leader RN leaders who help managers with staffing and operational needs during day and oversee all hospital operations on night shift.
