KEY ATLANTICARE TERMS/ACRONYMS

★ ABH – AtlantiCare Behavioral Health AtlantiCare’s behavioral and mental health services, including inpatient, outpatient, and community-based care. ACLS – Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Advanced life support certification required for designated roles as part of Essential Work Requirements (EWRs). ★ AOC – Administrator on Call The designated leader available outside of regular business hours to provide decision-making support and escalation for operational, clinical, and workforce-related events. Workforce Relations may need to contact the AOC when significant issues arise after hours. ★ APG – AtlantiCare Physician Group AtlantiCare’s employed provider network, including physicians, advanced practice providers, and Urgent Care Centers. APP – Advanced Practice Provider An umbrella term for licensed providers who practice at an advanced level, including Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) and Physician Assistants (PAs). Commonly used in staffing, scheduling, coverage, and performance conversations. ★ BC – Battalion Chief Senior EMS field leader responsible for operational oversight, staffing, and escalation during a shift. BLS – Basic Life Support CPR certification required for designated roles as part of Essential Work Requirements (EWRs). CISM – Critical Incident Stress Management Approach to provide support following traumatic or critical incidents. CISM may still be utilized in certain situations, though its availability and application are not always well understood or consistently communicated. The term is often referenced in discussions about post-incident staff support. CMS – Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Federal agency that sets conditions of participation and reimbursement requirements for hospitals and healthcare organizations. CMS requirements often influence policies, audits, and operational decisions, even when referenced indirectly in leadership conversations. ★ COS – Change of Status The form and process used to change job details outside of a requisition (pay, hours, reporting relationship, etc.). CPI – Crisis Prevention Institute Non-violent crisis intervention and de-escalation training required for designated roles as part of Essential Work Requirements (EWRs). ★ ARMC – AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center AtlantiCare’s hospital campuses include the Mainland Campus (MLD) in Pomona and the City Campus in Atlantic City.
