Professionalism Professionalism means showing respect, being responsible, and following through. It’s not just about showing up—it’s how you show up. Be on time and finish tasks when asked. Take responsibility for your actions—both the good and the mistakes. Treat everyone kindly: patients, EMTs, nurses, and other staff. Ask questions and show interest in helping. Getting Started Welcome to your EMS internship at AtlantiCare! This guide will help you understand what’s expected, how to succeed, and how to make the most of your experience. Communication & Language Clear and respectful communication helps the team work well together. This includes how you talk, text, or write emails. Reply to messages within a day. Avoid slang, emojis, or abbreviations in professional settings. Speak clearly and respectfully. Ask questions if you’re unsure—there’s no such thing as a bad question! Example: If your shift starts at 8:00 AM, aim to arrive by 7:50 to be ready.

Performance & Time Management Managing your time shows that you’re serious about learning and helping. Use a planner or your phone to keep track of tasks. If you finish something early, ask what you can help with. Be organized—keep a notebook of what you learn each day. Ask if something isn’t clear instead of guessing. Workplace Policies Keep your phone on silent and out of sight during shifts. Never post about patients or your work on social media. Respect patient privacy—HIPAA rules apply to you too.
